Did You Know?
Tom Cruise’s tactical draw is so good in this scene from Collateral that it’s used by experts in lessons for handgun training
For those that are interested it’s called shooting from retention. It’s the last line of defense because you shouldn’t let a threat get that close to you but in this scene it makes sense. He knew there was going to be a confrontation and he didn’t know if both where armed. Shooting both in the back from that distance with adrenaline pumping in him from the previous scene is hard to do so he brought them in close. He took a gamble that paid off that both would get close and not know how to use their guns properly.
Cruz must have been trained at the same level as special forces to pull this off so well and the director is one of the best a filming gun play ever. Everything from the sound to the angle really just shows off how good Mann is.
I want Mann to make a John Wick-ish film so bad.
Edit: I guess my only minor nitpick is that he should have put another round into the first shooter faster, like right after he put the second guy down. But it’s part of the character and story.
