Solo The Latest Disney Bombs and Flops
Solos is Disney’s second bomb of the year. WW total was $130 million against a budget (with marketing) of around $200 million. Estimates are it lost as much as $175 million for Disney. And,
“Solo” opens with abysmal $182K in Romania, below DP2’s second weekend.
Worth noting the fact that Romania is generally seen as a Star Wars-loving country. Opening weekends for comparisons:-
- IW – $822K
- DP2 – $643K
- Rogue One – $440K
- TLJ – around $770K
- TFA – around $1M
As a result, Disney is prepared to offer significant cash if needed, the sources said. The two are in agreement on a $52.4 billion bid for Disney to buy Fox’s movie studio and other assets. But Disney is competing with a potential bid by Comcast, the parent of CNBC.
