IT Scares Up The Opening Day Record for an R-Rated Release Away From Deadpool, With a Massive $51M; Already Eclipsing Hotel Transylvania 2’s September Opening Record in One Day; On The Way To a $110M+ Opening Weekend
A $51 million Friday for IT – it literally outgrossed The Dark Tower domestically in one day. Sony is probably kicking themselves right now for fucking up their franchise hopeful so badly.
IT is going to have another massive Saturday, judging by the sellouts and crowded showings I’m already seeing online. I wouldn’t be surprised by a $38-40 million Saturday and a final weekend gross of $115-120 million. Warner Bros. is definitely popping the champagne right now.
InfernalSolstice: Wow. Insane. I could see it going over 120 million for the weekend. That Friday number isn’t nearly as frontloaded as many buzzy horror movies seem to be, and It has clearly caught on well enough to do better than standard horror legs.
That Friday gross alone makes it the number 2 opening weekend for a horror movie (3 if you count Hannibal). That Friday gross alone also makes it the biggest September OW. Just goes to show, make a good movie that people want to see, and it can succeed regardless of what time of year it comes out.

IT is just a monster, I’m so happy for the cast, WB and my boi Stephen King getting the recognition and respect that he deserves ???? ?? takes him for granted and has overlooked him, it’s just lately that he’s been more in the know/media stuff. Yes he has a few disposable books, but he has wrote a lot of gems. Hopefully they adapt Under The Dome in a big two event movie, the series was meh.

‘It’ On Track For $47M on Friday, $100M+ Opening Weekend
IT’s opening weekend is about to gross more than the last 4 weekends of the box office.
This is the best comeuppance to Harold Bloom and all those irrelevant snobs who scoffed at Stephen King’s ability to create long-lasting stories with compelling characters — the man’s continued to churn out the terrifying fun for decades, and it’s pretty cool *It* is doing so well with movie critics too.
At its heart, *It* is about friendship in the face of overwhelming adversity. A timeless theme and myth that can be adapted for new generations, just as a good melody never gets old, and kudos to all who brought SK’s vision to life for those who weren’t even born when the original book came out.
I just hope this drives forth more quality SK movies and shows.
