Before “Wonder Woman,” she struggled to land high-profile roles.
Gal Gadot is doing pretty well for herself these days. “Wonder Woman” is behind only “Beauty and the Beast” as the highest-grossing film of the year, and “Justice League” is on the way. Before getting that life-changing part, however, the actress struggled to land high-profile gigs — including, it turns out, Imperator Furiosa of “Max Max: Fury Road.”
Gadot reveals that she was up for the role that eventually went to Charlize Theron in a new Hollywood Reporter interview. The reason she missed out on it and similar parts? She didn’t have the name recognition. “I had so many ‘almosts’ for big, great things, but I was never big enough of a name,” she says. “It was always me and ‘the big name’.”…Source
Gal Gadot MTV Movie Awards
JavierLoustaunau: I can see it. I prefer the reality we live in, but yeah, I can totally see it.
drunken_knight: I feel like Theron’s age really helps sell her as an experienced, battle-worn lieutenant. Gal could be interesting in the role, but I don’t know if she could sell the role as hard as Theron did, or with the same level of understated authenticity that comes from a very experienced actor.
Voevod: Gal could never hold the intensity that Theron can do. Glad she wasn’t cast.
SutterCane: *Bullet dodged*.
I mean, yeah, she did great in *Wonder Woman* and really shut me up over her casting but there’s no way her Furiosa would be half as good as Theron’s is.
MrDudeWheresMyCar: Interesting. Its hard to picture anyone but Theron in that role but its interesting to think about what the film would be like with Gadot in the role.
wasdie639: I’m glad Theron was cast. Furiosa required a lot of subtly and intensity that a more experienced actor would have been better suited to sell.
I don’t think Gadot could have delivered the same type of performance that Theron did. Theron really sold that character and was the stand-out in the film that really glued the whole thing together.
DavidJA: let’s thank the gods for their mercy
Nesnomis: I hear Arsene Wenger almost signed her too.
MonsieurIneos: Charlize Theron did such a great job I see a lot of hate incoming, but Gal Gadot could have been cool as well is Theron was unavailable.
Different types of actresses for very different roles though, glad it worked out the way it did!
Pod-People-Person: So, is there any chance we could see her in another *Mad Max* movie? Cause that’d be cool.
willbo2013: It’s one of those things that make you go “she would have done fine, but I’m glad they made the casting decision that they did.”
Unrelated but somewhat related: someone should make a Furiosa standalone movie. Theron was the best part of Fury Road (other than the action of course).
HearTheEkko: It could’ve been interesting, but I think Theron was perfect.
But really, what happened to the sequel ? Fury Road was critically acclaimed, Tom had a 3 movie contract, but still no news for 2 years.
luke_skyjacker: That would have been shiny and chrome in its own way.
tokiedokie: If anyone from WW was to be cast as Furiosa my vote would go to Robin Wright. Thought Theron did a fantastic job though.
PeterParkerPizzaTime: I can see it, and I do think Gal Gadot is a great actress but I’m glad Charlize Theron got the role. She killed it.
Choppergold: This is another way of saying, “please call me for a sequel”
Hillary1947-2017: Eh, she’s a little too scrawny to play a part like that. She was still too scrawny to play a physically imposing wonderwoman. Downvotes commence…
phenix714: Did you guys know Kiley Reough was in Fury Road ?
